Hi I’m looking into opening a hot yoga studio but as I am not a yogi, just a passionate student, so I am not sure about all the “rules”. Which type of yoga would my teachers not be allowed to teach? I know that there are copyrights on Bikram and Moksha. Does this mean that my teacher’s can’t teach these types of yoga even if I don’t call it “Bikram” or “Moksha”? Are there any other types of yoga I have to stay away from? What types of hot yoga am I allowed to teach?
If your teachers are trained and certified to teach through a lineage or a specific school, then they should be able to register themselves and offer their teachings under that title. Be sure that they are in good standing with their own teachers and schools of training before allowing any teacher to offer any classes through your studio; this is a matter of ethics and safety and as the owner, it will be your personal and legal responsibility to uphold the ethics and safety of your studio.
Kind regards,
Nichole
Nichole’s point is a very good one.
It is not so much “what can we teach that is legal or not excluded by copyright” but more of a “what are we trained to teach” so that the teaching actually makes sense to the student and the teacher is able to maintain integrity of their living.
