Hey everyone. I’ve recently been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD I don’t know I forget which or if it’s both. Anyway, the doctors of course want to drug me up but I personally think that the drugs will do more harm that good. Can yoga help with ADD or ADHD? My friend suggested it by I don’t really see how doing some stretches will make me be able to sit still and pay attention.
Hey,
Yeah, I don’t know about the drugs part. My brother took Ridilin and I know he regrets that. I also think yoga will help you with your problem. Yoga relaxes the mind and body (from what I’ve read and heard at least, I’m new too), so it’ll probably help you focus and calm down. I wish I knew more about the specific effects it has, but overall I think it’ll probably help you somewhat.
Dear Scattered (great name),
There are at least two medical studies out there showing that Yoga and meditation can help with symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Meditation is key, as it helps to retrain our neuroplastic brains in thinking and attention patterns. Be sure to pick a Yoga training program that includes meditation, not just “some stretches.” Best is a style of meditative Yoga so that the body and brain can work together in a synergistic way. The Agama Yoga style comes to mind, but there are others. Experiment with teachers in your area.
Best of luck. Kudos to you for choosing natural methods to heal yourself rather than rapidly jumping on the pharma band wagon!
