Hi,
I’m a teacher and will begin working with a new student privately this week. He suffers from a condition called ‘arachnoiditis’ (google it…it’s bad). There is no cure for this painful, disabling condition and is coming to yoga upon the recommendation from his doctor.
I haven’t spoken with HIS physician, but did speak at length with an anesthesiologist friend of mine about it. As it’s not a mechanical issue, strictly CNS, my friend says movement won’t injure him further.
My plan is to spend a lot of time on pranayama, so he can use it on his own when the pain is unbearable. And of course a lot of stretching poses.
If anyone has ever worked with a student with this condition (or similar), I’d love some suggestions. I’m really excited about this student as I KNOW yoga can help him.
Namaste,
Meredith
