Hi, I’m Jay from West Mt. Airy, Philly, State of Perplexity, USA, been doing yoga seriously for a year or so, after about five years of off-and-on (mostly off). I’m the kind of doctor who can explain Walt Whitman to you while you die, am trying to keep up a daily practice (often no more than five minutes of neck stretches but, at this point, I’m thinking that just getting myself to sit on the mat for any amount of time after getting up is what counts. Further along, maybe I’ll get more ambitious), and am always looking to meet new yoga people (since they tend to be a lot healthier than the people I’ve tended to hang out with in the past). Namaste,
Dr. Jay
Hi Dr. Jay! I’ve been doing yoga for about a year now-- twice a week for an hour- and I feel better than ever. Its definitely improved my outlook on things— and helped to reduce some every day stresses. I’m also new to this forum, so I thought I would drop in and say hello.
Hi Jay. I’m Amy, also from the Philly area. I suppose it’s no coincidence that a Whitman scholar has found this practice! Gotta wonder if the guy had a mat of his own!
“getting myself to sit on the mat for any amount of time after getting up is what counts”
absolutely - just do it!
Right now I’ll take my daily short practice of 20 to 45 minutes throughout the day
I usually do 20 minutes to wake up and then when I get home do select asanas throughout the night, holding them for a longer duration and resting between each one.
Hi to other Philly or Philadelphia area yogis. I’ve been practicing yoga the last 15 years or so, well versed in a variety of styles, power yoga, restorative, kids, kripalu, bikram, hot yoga, although the last few years have been concentrating on Partner Yoga. Looking to just connect with other yogis or yoga newbies (or yoga-curious) and be a positive part of the community.
Smiles,
Hello and welcome Jay.
I’m Gordon Kaplan. Baltimore-born Seattle resident and occasional contributor here.
I’m me and I have no mat.
I use concrete or asphalt. Preferably freshly laid asphalt.
I can also make fire.
