Yoga for my Workout

Hello fellow Yogans!

I started a little workout at home for the days i?m not doing my usual cardio in the form ov volleyball and squash and now i would like to accompanie that with some yoga.

I know absolutely nothing about yoga and i would like somebody to help me out.

My workout is about being fit and more healthy and gaining some strength and not about bodybuilding.

About me and my sportst:

I am 2 meters(6.4 feet) tall and way about 110 kg (242punds).
I play volleyball twice a week for 2 hours and squash twice a week for 1 hour
on day i dont play VB or squash i do a little workout consisting of:
Pushups, squats, lunges, pull ups and lat pulldowns

because all of my height have allways had problems with my back (and im only 22 years old).

As i said i dont know the first thing about yoga and maybe someone has some suggestions for me!

thanks! pommi

Have you considered some alignment-based classes near your residence, school, or work?

There are, of course, many ways to get exposure to the practice of Yoga. Generally speaking, most of what you’ll see on the topsoil is asana, the Sanskrit word for poses or posture (actually “seat” when literally translated).

Among that topsoil of physical practice you’ll find teachers who make you prance around, jump here and there, sweat your buns off, etcetera. There is no regulatory function for yoga teachers whatsoever so anything goes. And “anything” often equals someone’s whim, taste, or preference rather than something with roots.

My point here is to choose a well trained teacher and do so wisely. In so choosing remember that there is a practice that will balance your current living and one that will heap on to it. That is for you to choose and one must be aware, looking, attentive, and feeling in order to find the correct fit for them (when they are seeking health, as “out-of-balance” and “health” may not be synonyms).

Where you are located may help us guide you more specifically.

I’m going to agree with Gordon. If you know nothing about yoga, you are probably not going to get much out of doing a few poses by yourself at home. Find a well-qualified teacher that you like and start there.
