Yoga for plantar fasciitis?

Hi everyone. I hope you are all well

Does anyone have advice for someone suffering from plantar fasciitis? I’ve been playing a lot of soccer (I’ve cut down) which has resulted in a pretty chronic case of plantar fasciitis. My regular yoga routines don’t seem to be helping a whole lot. If anyone has any ideas, I’m all ears.

Thank you!

Hi David! Nice to see you post, but unfortunate for your plantar fasciitis. Ouch!

You are probably doing the things you should, but I’ll offer a few just in case.

~Massage soles of feet (or foot) with your thumbs to help break up the fascia. Do this for about a minute or so.
~Vajrasana with toes curled under.
~Supta Padanghusthasana

You might want to lay low with the soccer until it clears up.

Good luck David!

Forgot to add with Supta P, use a strap and place at ball of foot.

Thank you! I really appreciate it

You’re welcome David!

Take care.

Hi David,
I had horrible plantar fasciitis for ten months and I finally kicked it within seeing a podiatrist and he taught me how to use this amazing orthotic tape which altered the biomechanics of my foot. Supta pdangusthasana takes the edge off but will not cure it, sadly. I tried all the yoga tricks for months, no joy. It even affected my practice so severely that I couldn’t do a whole heap of poses. The podiatrist also gave me a special insole for my sports shoes.
I can’t tell you how happy I am to no longer be in pain.
If it doesn’t subside with the yoga after, say, a month, go see a podiatrist and mention the tape. Good luck!
Kind regards,
Sophie

PROBABLY a warm footbath …

David, i have not had any experience with client suffered from plantar fascistic, but i’ve seen quite a few people - yoga students and teachers who overcome this issue with some bodywork…i remember they all swear by tennis ball, melt method, and some Yoga Therapy techniques …

I’d highly recommend Ray Long’s treatment free to peruse at:

Be well

Thank you both so much

We are more often frightened than hurt; and we suffer more from imagination than from reality.

yoga postures which work on Plantar fasciitis are Malasana (Squat Pose) , Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog Pose) and Parsvottanasana (Intense stretch Pose).
you can also keep your legs soaked for few minutes in warm “esom salt” water for few days.
