Yoga for respiratory health

Here in Austin, there is an extremely virulent respiratory infection going around that people (including myself) can’t seem to shake. I’ve talked to people who have had it for well over a month and my girlfriend and I are past the three week mark. Some people’s symptoms are worse than others. For example, I’ve been coughing up blood this entire time. If you’ve never hacked up blood, it’s about on par with bullets whizzing by your head; scary stuff. Initial chest xrays showed an infiltrate in my lower left lung which they gave me 750mg of Levaquin for (a super strong antibiotic that brought new meaning to crazy nightmares as a side effect) which did little to nothing which means it’s likely viral.

So I come to you my dear yogis, can you suggest anything yoga related for lung health? Pranayama, asana, specific meditation techniques, dietary suggestions, it’s all welcome. If it helps me, I’ll print up the ideas and pass it out as I go into public and hear everyone trying not to cough up their lungs.

Thank you

we have being trying to discuss this … see this thread http://www.yogaforums.com/forums/f16/be-ready-for-cold-season-6791.html

I can empathize with you. I have been able to remain virus free for almost 2 years only through a strict regimen of taking Siberian ginseng, olive leaf extract, vit C & D, zinc.

Unfortunately, once you are infected the only recourse is rest and fluids. No physical exercise, gentle yoga only. Allow your body to take care of it. I speak from experience.
