hai, im in the process of working out to get six pack. i’ve gone through all the steps. doing cardio workout that raise the heart rate is a must before doing any crunching or abs workout. i use to jog few kilometres before doing the abs workout. but now since im having ankle pain due to injury during football game i just limit myself into doing yoga at home in order to give more time for ankle pain to heal. but yoga practise can’t really raise my heart rate. is there any yoga workout that can be done as cardi workout or raising the heart rate before doing abs workout? thank u
Yoga is a comprehensive 8-limbed scientific system to liberate oneself; if you?re looking for a so called ?western yoga workout? you?ll be interested in exploring yoga asana. I?ll recommend two:
Iyengar: More of a rehabilitative/restorative yoga asana
Ashtanga Vinyasa: More of an athletic aerobic yoga asana
Not sure either one will give the six-pack results you seek?
Six-pack abs are largely made in the kitchen, but in addition to Yoga (for its restorative contribution), and some cardio you should also consider fast-paced circuit weight training.
Can you make ice in the desert?

Yes. Providing you have a fridge.
I get my six pack from the beer store
hai Inner athlete,
why not? by evaporative cooling of water u can make ice at the desert. u know chemistry?
my question is if there is any yoga workout that can increase heart rate since my ankle pain and i cant do any cardio workout like running. one has to increase heart rate before doing crunch test.i have done up to 10 sun salutations at sometime and i can feel my heart rate increase, at least moderately. one does no need to run like Usain Bolt to increase heart rate right? then how about ashtanga vinyasa, power yoga and bikram yoga workout? does it never increase heart rate? at least moderately

Hi Selvan,
I practice “ashtanga yoga” - at times I sweat like animal (especially on warm days) but my heart rate never gets high. Breathing and heart rate is quite stable.
Could you please explain why you need to increase heart rate before doing abs workout? I always had impression that size&strenght is a response to extreme burden. And in order to give your muscles time to grow you should avoid tiring them with unnecessary exercises (which I think cardio would be if you are after size).
Hello Selvan,
I understand that you need your cardio to increase your fat burning to reveal your abs. But this does not necessarily create 6 packs.
Strength training is slower, but by increasing your lean muscle mass, you also increase your fat burning capabilities even while resting.
As your ankle heals, I would recommend doing strength training and whole body exercises. Yoga is excellent for both.
Then by the time your ankle heals you can continue your cardio.
I find that if I do squats (awkward pose) and push ups as well as plank pose, that will increase my heart rate.

I have three suggestions based on your question as you’ve presented it.
The first is to go to the ACE fitness site and read their study from 2005 on caloric burn and asana practice.
The second is to purchase a quality heart rate monitor and do the tests yourself, sampling the styles you mention and recording your results.
The third is to do the above sampling without a meter, relying instead on your own sense, feeling, intuition, etc.
To me, to speed practice risks losing some benefits in order to simply get the heart rate up. However that is your intention and you are welcome to it.
