Yoga for toddlers

Hi i’m a busy mum with a baby and a two and a half year old toddler. i am struggling to do any yoga practice because of these demands. before i had cildren i was practicing almost every day.

the only way i figure i can get any yoga practice is to do it at home with my toddler. any suggestions for poses to do with a toddler would be appreciated and suggestions on hoe to fit yoga into a busy mum’s lifestyle.

Toddlers love animal poses…down dog…frog…cat!! They love tree pose. Teach them about breathing. Remember they do not have the attention to have a real practice…but I have found that its fun with kids!! Here is a great book…http://www.amazon.com/Itsy-Bitsy-Toddlers-Preschoolers-ebook/dp/B001YQEZEG
Hope this helps and good luck!!

Some poses are awesome and kids love them. All yoga books say that children under 12 yo should not do pranayama and some asanas. You may want to make sure which ones…

Hello
I am a yoga mum as well and I suggest you practice while the babies are sleeping. That is the only way to get into a real practice. I practice before they wake up, at night when I put them to bed. or when they take a nap. The rest of the time being present with your child is the best yoga you can practice. Just try to get organized in a way you project that you will be doing yoga later, when they go to bed (don’t eat, get everything else done, etc)
Good luck and remember it is always worth the effort!

Many, many years ago I got into apanasana (energy freeing pose) and put my little son on my shins (head facing me). He would fly like an airplane! Great fun.

Thanks for your great suggestions. I think the important thing is to prioritise yoga practice… I will get that book out on yoga for toddlers, it looks great and also to remembering to be present with your children is also great yoga practice! P.S. Excuse the typing errors in my original post, I was trying to type and breastfeed my baby at the same time…

Toddler Yoga is an adaptation of traditional yoga. It is designed to stimulate the mental, physical and emotional faculties of your child with the added benefit of enriching the parent-child relationship. Toddler Yoga is great fun and can be enjoyed by the whole family, younger and older siblings as well. It encourages pre-verbal communication and enhances physical confidence. It teaches both adult and child how to relax together.
