Yoga in Mauritius

Hello,

I am going to Mauritius before heading off on my world travels and I am hoping I can continue my yoga practice.

I am a beginner and I will be staying with a friends family whilst I am there so I don’t need accommodation.

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions?

Thanks

Emma

Namaste,

There is a beautiful Sivanada Ashram started by Gurudev’s main disciple Swami Venkatesanada in Port Louis. Here are their contact details:

The Secretary,
DLS, Sivanand Yoga Ashram,
Swami Sivananda Street,
Rose Hill,
MAURITIUS.
Tel/Fax: (230) 467 8502

Haven’t been there myself yet, but heard from others that it is worth visiting. I am also not sure what programmes they offer, perhaps it will be best if you can inquire first.

Hello Emma & welcome!

I asked the same question in my first post on this forum  This is a copy of a recommendation I received at that time (I believe it’s 2 years ago, so I hope that information is still valid):

“Yogasthali, situated in Curepipe is indeed an institution worth recommending- whether you are a beginner or an advanced practitioner, you’ll be trained by expert Yoga teacher from India - There is also the IGCIC ( Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture) at Phoenix, however they have quite strict rules and regulations- and moreover enrolments are in Novembers only-There are quite a number of other institutions and I 'm sure there should be a couple of very good ones and a couple of them only for money making business”

I just practised by myself while I was there, so I didn’t participated classes.

Greetings

Thank you for passing this information on.

Emma

Hi Emma,

I went to Indian Ocean Wellness Institute ; they are professional and have small groups. The trainer is a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. Good Luck.
