I’ve practiced yoga for 4 years and would like to obtain certification to teach. What does the average yoga instructor make per year if they teach within a studio (not a gym)? I live in Las Vegas. Would welcome any information.
Why is it yoga that you wish to teach?
The answer to your revenue question would vary greatly.
In the current climate it is challenging for many yoga teachers to make a living wage such that they could teach only yoga and not burn out doing so.
It is possible but I think it takes both an entrepreneurial spirit and an organized mind.
I’d like to teach b/c I’d like to give back what yoga has given me. I’m also thinking that it would allow for some flexibility as I plan to go back for my masters and will need to do something at least part-time. I’ve been in the corporate world for 7 years and if anything, I’m burned out on that.
In a studio, is it more standard to find instructors paid a flat rate per class or rather, per person, paid based on how many people you have in a class?
Thank you for your response! :D
Oh I see.
Most gyms or fitness centers pay teachers a flat rate which they call an “hourly”. it is typically $30-40 per hour-long class but that will vary due to geographical regions. Additionally there are some gyms now paying less.
In a studio you are likely to see a base AND a heart count (or “head count”). Teachers that have many students come to their classes on a regular basis have a greater chance of negotiating their wages.
You may also find a studio paying only a heart count. And that pay may vary based on numbers.
