As a newcomer to Yoga, it is easy to apply violence to one’s body. Indeed, this is one of the discriminations (ability to clearly perceive the truth) which a dedicated yoga practice will help you to develop.

Please continue to practice Yoga, both on and off the mat, following the guidelines of the Yoga Sutras. Yogasana is defined as a “comfortable and steady posture”. Further, the practice of Ahima or Nonviolence begins with one’s relationship to their own body before it can be extended to others. Please be aware of your desire to “achieve” a pose, and rather be content and truthful as to the limitations of one’s physical body at that moment. The cultivation of earnest practice coupled with the wisdom of maintaining a positive outlook despite results is truly an achievement. Increasing your capacity to be calm despite conditions which are beyond control is part of the process of a holistic yoga training. There is much to learn from observing yourself. What were previously unconscious patterns of behavior leading to pain and suffering, become more conscious. The ability to make informed choices then is possible.
