Nice to see you good after a long time!
But couldnt comment/reply/ask on youtube
Is Patanjali?s Yoga Sutras is nothing, but The Psychology of Yoga?
Maybe, I’m not getting you, for sure.
bjoy,
Good to see you as well : )
The whole science of “yoga” which Patanjali had described is just a method for the expansion of consciousness towards coming to a direct perception of one’s true nature. It is not a question of mind, though mind is certainly involved, but it is a phenomenon of moving beyond mind. Truth is not something that is to be understood through the mind. And this is how the mind works - it creates everything in it’s own image, twisting everything into it’s subjectivity. Out of this - a thousand and one different beliefs, philosophies, theories, and religions have been born - none of which are capable of transmitting the reality. That is why when we say yoga, we are not talking about a belief, a philosophy, or even a method. The word itself simply means “Union”. When the activity of the mind has come to a stillness, and all dualities dissolve into One reality, then this is a state of yoga. Any method that leads towards this, is a method towards yoga. This is not something simply psychological, nor is it something limited to the physical, it is existential.

? nothing more, nothing less.
Yoga is not psychology as psychology (Modern Psychology) is scientific study of human and animal behaviour; and scientific study of higher mental processes (sensation, perception, cognition, thinking, intelligence, memory, creativity, problem solving, etc.). But Yoga, specially Raj Yoga or Asthanga yoga or Patanjali Yoga (traditional type) involves a lot of enquiry, insight and understanding nto many a aspects of what psychology (Modern Psychology) involves. That is why such a inclusion is known as Yoga Psychology. Bihar School of Yoga, India, one of eminent and authentic source of Yoga literature and training, is conducting gradute, post graduate courses on Yoga Psychology.

Health And Yoga,
There is something which you can call Yoga Psychology, but it has nothing to do with the science and technology towards awakening, neither does it have anything to do with the direct experience of your original nature. That is what yoga (Union) is, it is an experience. It has not to do with mind, but in moving beyond mind. The activity of the mind - you can interpret it in various different ways - and thats why psychology has many different schools, interpretations, and doctrines - the Jungian schools, Freudians, Roberto Assagiolis psychology, Adler, and so on. Your interpretations about how the mind works, has little to do with the experience of coming to deeper insight into your own being. Yoga is not something intellectual, it is experiential. Anything intellectual that has ever been said about it - are just attempts to try and express the inexpressible. That is fine, we need our words and descriptions. But we should be vigilant that - no matter how brilliant our words and descriptions, no matter what can be said about it, it is impossible to transmit the reality itself. Your clinging to words and descriptions will only distort the reality.
I don’t read Amir’s posts because he is on my ignore list, but I’m happy to see that someone who is a professional in the field has expressed an opinion on the subject. I think it’s remarkable that a modern psychologist finds Patanjali’s work to be insightful. This validates what many of us already know.
