YOGA Licensing Laws in the USA

Hi,

I have a question on the rules and regulations as far as practicing as Yoga teacher in the USA. I did a Yoga teacher training in germany and emigrated to the USA. I do have a piece of paper stating that I am a Yoga instructor and would now like to start teaching Yoga in the USA. What are the legal issues i need to know (in Germany there is not legal rule or regulation). I understand that the USA is a bit diffrent and i dont want to get sued for anything! I want go with the Yamas and Nyamas!

Thank you very much for your help!

Sadly, anyone can teach yoga in the U.S. and do so without a shred of training at all.
However injuring those one is teaching is a different matter and it is highly advised to buy liability insurance. You’re less likely to hurt people when you’ve done a proper training. But we live in a society where it is rare to take personal responsibility for one’s life and choices, so blaming others for their woes is quite common, thus the need for insurance.

Hello Jake,

Welcome to the USA!

You would need liability insurance if you are the owner of the space, of course. Otherwise, you can have students sign a liability waiver up front, included in your enrollment form, to which they are generally accustomed. They assume the “inherent risks” of the activity. It’s very unlikely they would not sign, but if they don’t, do not enroll them.

I wonder when someone registers the correct way of breathing.
Than all who would like to use the method, would have to pay for it.
