Yoga making ill?

I hope this is appropriate to this forum. I live in a small town and have no yoga experience or anyone to ask.

I just started yoga by using a DVD. I have been doing the morning session for just over a week, but have had to skip the evening every day. I have felt ill every evening. Nauseated, gagging, lethargic and body aches (not muscle aches) - flu like symptoms. I am okay by morning. I have not had fever. The one day I skipped yoga in the morning, I did not have these symptoms in the afternoon.

Could it possibly be related to the yoga? I had a similar experience once after a deep tissue massage. The therapist said it released toxins in my body and would go away.

Thank you for any insight.

Maybe. Could be. Should be.

practice empty stomach / eat after about 30 minutes doing Asana.

the breath is a major body pump and a doorway for vitality to enter our self.

use breath and mental muscle to lift asana to a higher level.

& release, use your breath to relax more, to tune into your inner strength.

If not.

Please, practice under relevant guidance.

Practice of Asana is detoxifying - yes.

Your moving well oxygenated blood - compressing vascular channels - opening others, compressing viscera and so on. This symphony of action ‘helps’ to root out impurity.

All your symptoms sound just like what I have experienced when I have done asana, sauna, fasts and so on - with the aim of these activities towards ‘detoxification.’

Eating well will help to counter the symptoms. I have also found vitamin C to be somewhat helpful

Thank you both for sharing your knowledge. I have been working for 2 months to change to a healthier diet - started with little to no processed food and very little fat, replaced whites with whole grains and increased my vegetable intake - and to wean off high blood pressure meds and anti-anxiety. Completely off meds and blood pressure is great!

Completed a whole body detox before starting yoga and it was nothing compared to how I am feeling now! But since I know that I am doing something that my body needs, I will persevere!

I am already loving it and I am not a person who enjoys exercising. My posture and flexibility has improved and I have felt no muscle pain!

I could provide you a better answer if you could provide a more robust description of you, your fitness background and the practice that we are calling “yoga”.
