Yoga Music

Hi
I have friend who lives for her yoga, her birthday is coming up and I thought about giving her a CD with music that would be suitable for yoga, does anyone have some examples of CDs that are not so well known (she’s probably got them already…)

thanks
/Stella

Hello Stella
I have this really good cd for yoga and most of my friends had not seen it until I got it, it’s called Nice Avec Toi by Chris Brenne, I think i found it on amazon…
Anyway good luck with the cd!
Nadia.

I will often shuffle between experimental, trip-hop (and the like), though I tend to try to find whole albums that tell a story. In particular, I connect to beats, the soulful voices and lyrics. This includes Portishead, Morcheeba, Massive Attack, Blonde Redhead, Goldfrapp, some Radiohead (particularly off of Kid A and Amnesiac), Bitter::Sweet, Bliss, DeepDive Corp, Parallel, Ladytron, Bjork, Air, M83, (some) Beck, Architecture in Helskini, Panda Bear, Leftfield, Aluminum, IMonster, Lykke Li, even some story-telling trancey stuff like Sasha, Oakenfold, and Digweed. I also have some Afro-Cuban music I stole from my parents (we’re of Cuban ethnicity) that has various artists on it. And am victim to the Lifescapes variations of Scottish moors, Celtic, Bagpipe, and acoustic guitar. ::blushes::

I cannot be of any help here Stella as I love music and yoga but I do not, as a rule, do them at the same time. When I listen to music I want to be fully in the music. Likewise when I’m practicing asana I want to be fully in my own body.

Sorry I cannot suggest something appropriate for gifting in this regard.

good point, inner athlete. that is rather mindful .

you know…

you could record white noise, or simple quiet (you determine what this means), and give your friend the gift of silence.

This is all great ideas, you’ve really given me something to think about, thank you so much!

If your friend is interested in anatomy part of the yoga then you can give her is the book of Key Muscles of Yoga.
it is a wonderful book you can give as birthday gift for a yoga practitioner!

i think you should try amazon

Hi Stella,

My favourite yoga CDs are available online at Radiant Light Yoga (.com) website. (I think there’s a ‘products’ page).

Akash and Radha Bornstein (mother and daughter) both sing from the heart.

Radha’s “Fierce Compassion” CD has beautiful spiritual music. “Kindle” is her newest CD that she recorded with her band, “Rasayana”.

The CD they did together called “Pranadance” was created to accompany a one-hour yoga practice. I often use it when I’m teaching Yoga classes.

There are some other mantra CDs, too.

I hope this helps,

Rachel

When I do practice with music (depends on the day) an oldie but a good for me is:
Wade Imre Morrisettes’ Strong as Diamonds download…

Hey,

I’m an artist from Toronto, and for the past three years i’ve been working an an ambient album that is perfect for yoga and meditation. Its super-relaxing and hopefully will take you on a deep spiritual journey.

It’s available on itunes, just search “Temmy Lewis”, I think you’ll really enjoy

matured tunes really…

thanks

Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, Dave Stringer are all good

Donna De Lory’s “The Lover and the Beloved” is really great! She is so talented. She used to be a backup singer for Madonna, and has done her own solo project. To be honest I actually like her yoga type music better than her regular music. I really enjoy it because she uses a combination of Sanskrit and English in it. And for someone like myself who doesn’t understand too much sanskrit, it’s really nice to be able to get some clues from the english lyrics as to what the song is about without having to look it up online.

A few hours ago I bought a CD from a Tibetan store in Toronto.

The name: The Gynto Monks Tantric Choir. Sacred chants of Tibet.

If you visit Tibetan or Indian stores, you might find jewels there.
