Yoga n00b seeking wisdom

Hello, my name is Julie. I live in Oklahoma… I’m currently a student in college, working almost 40 hours a week. I’m constantly busy, and I put a lot of stress on myself.

A year ago I took a Hatha Yoga class at college and thoroughly enjoyed it. It really transformed something inside of me… and I crave the physical, mental, and spiritual awareness I developed in that class. But now that I don’t have it, I rarely make time for yoga… something I am trying to correct. It’s hard.

I am working towards a career in video games, creating concept art and storyboarding ideas.

Anyway, I decided to find a forum because I want a place to discuss many things… I want advice, I want to learn from other people, and I want to give back when I can.

I’m really struggling in life right now, and I know we all do from time to time… but I decided to reach out rather than… burrow inside like I normally do? I want to feel better about myself in all aspects!

I guess that’s probably good for now. Thank you!

Hey Julie,

You’re only one breath away from yoga at any moment. You can always take a step toward yoga, even if you can’t make it to a class. For example…EXHALE!..fully and completely (through your nose), and let go. Let the air come in slowly. Feel it. Measure it. That’s your ongoing objective: passive inhalation. Reach for that threshold where you’re pushing all your air out and it comes back in all by itself. That is yoga. You can do it right now.

That’s just one example, and it’s not to over-simplify yoga or to give you any false ideas about it, just know that you’re already moving in the direction of yoga and that your Will will carry you. You are on your way.

peace,
siva

Thank you Siva.

I have been trying to keep what you said in mind and practice this daily. Breathing seems like it should be so natural, but it is one of the things that I always seem to get held up on.

But practice, practice…

Welcome to the forum! I am new here as well. This forum is not super-active, but there seem to be alot of people willing to reach out and answer questions and give advice.

Good luck with what sounds like a fascinating career!
