Yoga post caesarean section

Hi,

I have a student who has just given birth by caesarean section. How long should she wait before beginning her practice again? I?ve recommended she checks with her doctor and to take it really slowly when she returns, but does anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking of doing some gentle 1 to 1 classes with her to ease her back gently in to her practice. Many thanks for your advice?

Cheers

Hi Ell,

You definitely did the right thing by having her talk with her doctor before resuming any sort of exercise. I also think that one on one classes are a good idea because all of your attention will be on her without distraction.

I’m sorry that I don’t have an estimated time for you, but your post struck my eye because I am pregnant and was curious.

I’m sure that she will be able to heal and get back to her regular practice quickly with a teacher that cares like you do.

Hi Mandy,

Many thanks for your reply and kind words. What I’ve managed to discover is that 6 weeks seems to be the usual period for recovery after a typical pregnancy (if there is such a thing  ) before returning to practice. Obviously this will still vary from student to student.

All this has inspired me to enrol on a Restorative Yoga teacher training course to enable me to serve my students better. The very best of luck with your pregnancy

Cheers

Thanks so much Ell!

I’m so happy to hear that this has inspired you to continue learning

I teach mainly restorative yoga myself and I have found that I enjoy it so much more than I ever thought possible.

Good luck to you and have fun!
