Yoga resourse

Hey all, new to the forum and delighted to have arrived in such a place.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with my current situation and mild dilemma regarding my practice. I recently quit my job to free up my time and fully engage in the pursuit and perfection of my many passions, yoga of course being one of them. I am willing to put in the time and the commitment necessary in order to get, like, really good, however I’m not aware of a medium from which the required tuition can be accessed.

Basically I want to know if anyone has anything they would specifically recommend that would aid me on my journey towards perfecting the art. This could be a DVD, a book, a website, or a set of online videos from whatever format. The idea of a nice free nieche youtube channel seems to be luring me in the most. There must be on there soomewhere, it’s just finding it thats the problem.

I would be practicing for half an hour to an hour a day so something preferably lively and regularly updated to keep things interesting, however anything right now would help me out of the dark and prove better than nothing.

Thank you kindly for your support.
Namaste.

P.s. I do attend a class or two a week I’m just look for something to be able to up my game slightly while I’m on my loansome.

Hi, KlassicJazz !
Thats very important to choose right sources of knowledge at the beginning. Heres what gives me a really strong inspiration for practice:
Swami Vivekananda lectures;
Swami Shivananda books;
BKS Iyengar asana explanations;
David Swenson - Ashtanga Yoga DVD; (good, even if you do another yoga)
All above is perfect for a beginner.
Later, maybe, Upanishads. If you are ready for them now, that`s all you need.

A comprehensive list, Sasha.

I may add ‘An Autobiography of a Yogi’ by ParamhansaYogananda, for understanding the spiritual side of Yoga and finding your own balance between Yoga and life.

Yeah, very nice list Sasha and definitively Autobiography of a Yogi is a must.

I would like to add the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Klassic Jazz, you can search in Youtube “Yoga Sutras Swami Rama” and you will get 85 videos of a lecture given by Swami Rama on the Yoga Sutras, it’s excellent!! There are also some videos with Swami Vivekananda thoughts and you can also find David Swenson Ashtanga Yoga videos in youtube… not sure if that one is legal though.

Welcome to the forum! You can find a lot of info in the books and online. I would also recommend to find some affordable yoga classes with good teacher.
Also check out yoga journal online and stick to the forum:)
Good luck with you journey into yoga!
