Yoga Teacher Training - book before arriving or check it out first?

Hi there all!

I am planning on arriving in Rishikesh in September and spending 6 months travelling. I am wanting to do a yoga teacher training course on arrival (apart from it being a big reason for my trip, I see it as a way of settling in…) however, the question I am battling with is whether I book a course before arriving and make judgement based on what I trust or do I spend a few days looking about?

Any suggestions on places worth going to from those who have trained in India?

I am currently booked at YogaPoint (not in Rishikesh I know) - still deciding though… Any thoughts?

It is still a total mystery to me why people ask for advice on TTCs on forums such as this one…
If you want to teach yoga or want to do a course to deepen your understanding…then ask your teacher!!!

If you have been practicing yoga for some time and have you have found a teacher/studio/style/school that really works for you…stay with it for a good time and ask that teacher/teachers who to study with…ask for personal recommendations from teachers who you have studied with and who you respect…not strangers on the internet…(except Gordon…his advice always seems very well considered, honest and clear).

What are you doing here then? If you found a good teacher/studio then why ask ANYTHING here?

Good grief.

Some people want suggestions so they can do further research. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m going to ban you from this teacher training forum if you keep posting nonsense like this.

Yoga Point is a good place. I am assuming you are referring to the one in Nasik, near Bombay. If you have not paid up yet, you may want to look at Sivananda Ashram Kerala. Also an excellent place- I did my TTC there and teach there.

I am not sure what Yoga Point you are referring to if it is in Rishikesh?

The one I am thinking about is in Nashik in Maharashtra.

If it is the same one, then yes they do have different batches: basically there is a batch every month it seems till the end of the year after which there is one in Jan 2013 too according to their schedule.

Are you currently in India?
Have you trained anywhere else?

I am not sure what to tell you about Yogapoint, but I have heard fairly good things about it here and there. I am in Goa myself, working in a yoga school called Sushumna. We offer teacher trainings as well. Right now we have a month long teacher training planned for November and then later another one in March. Our training is 300+ hrs and YA accredited. Usually we put focus on deepening the yoga practice and history shows that actually many participants join the training not so much for the certification to teach, but to learn and discover themselves. Anyway, if you decide to go further south in India, you’d be very welcome at Sushumna Yoga. But what I wanted to add, is that perhaps you should try looking for some video reviews about yoga teacher trainings, like the one we have, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw5IEEv2_Io&feature=plcp

Best of luck in your search! Namaste
