Hi i’m interested in doing a yoga teacher training class in india but I want it for longer than the 200 or 500 hr. class. I am having hard time finding a place that will do that and am wondering if any one knows any good places
Are you hoping for an intensive course that will give you more hours than 500? Or are you able to travel there and stay for a lengthy amount of time in order to spread this training out? It would be my best recommendation to go with the latter, as even a 200 hour program requires a lot of time to reflect and integrate, and it would be best that you have the time for continued teaching practice during the process so that your studies can be applied and directed under the guidance of your teachers. Looking for one program that does this will require quite a devotion, so the fit should be very good. This information will help the forum to direct you better:
What is it that you most connect with through yoga?
Meditation?
Psychology or medicine?
The physical benefits?
How long have you yourself been practicing?
What do you practice regularly?
How does yoga affect your life?
Where and to whom do you think you will teach?
How long could you stay there?
What kind of financial investment can you make?
Is there any particular yoga tradition that you feel the most comfortable with?
Do you come from India, or can you speak any of the languages there? (Not so much important, but if you did, maybe more ideas could be given).
In lieu of all this, there are some one year and longer programs at organizations such as SVYASA and Kaivalyadhamma. They are taught in English and they even offer some diplomas, bachelors degrees etc.
Ant, Please let us know where you end up going. I’d love to have the opportunity to go for a longer time of study, as well, at some point in the future.
Namaste,
Mary
Oh, and India would be great, but I’m open for a longer study anywhere.
I would have to say the physical and meditation are equally important for me.
I’ve been practicing for about half a year. By the time I go on the trip it will be longer. I’m just trying to formulate a plan right now and see what I need it’s a goal I will accomplish but will take some time. I practice Vinyasa I didn’t know about the others till I started getting into this and planning this out I love yoga started doing it while I was doing martial arts. Yoga like martial arts helps center me I had a rough and tumble life that made me aggressive and all over the place but as I’ve gotten older I’ve been striving for peace and have found it in both of these. As far as where and who’m that’s up to the gods maybe no one it might just be something that ends up enriching me. I was thinking half a year of intensive training and studying. whatever that would cost maybe a year if I can find it and get a price and plan it out. I’m not from india and I don’t know the language I’ve never tried any but vinyasa I do really like though I"m open to others knowing their out there I’ll try some out and make certain though I’m pretty set on vin. I appreciate the feedback thank u.
I would also suggest spreading out your training. These programs can be quite intense and you will likely process a lot emotionally each and every day. You won’t really know until you get there how you click with the teacher, the other students and your location so shorter commitments can allow you to move on when you are ready to. If you find a teacher that you really connect with, you could always continue studying with them later. It is also nice to explore different geographic areas while you study. I have found that with our students at our trainings here at Anamaya they often get just as much out of the nature and beauty of our physical surroundings as they do from the training itself.
Best of luck to you!!
