Yoga & the Internet - Who'd of thunk it?

Great to be here! Looks like a wonderful group of interesting, supportive yogis (well, are there any other kind?).

I just love combining the communication and community building possibilities of the Internet with the richness of the (low-tech) yoga experience.

I started teaching yoga about 10 years ago, although my clinic schedule and online projects leave little time for such fun any more. (Fortunately, my wife has taken over that mantle in recent years!) I’m probably most influenced by the work of John Friend… I use his approach to the principles of alignment daily, in my practice of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, which includes a lot of neuro-musculo-skeletal work.

I’m also the founder of YogiReviews.com, and (very occasionally) try to update my Natural Health blog: blog.ponderhealth.com

Welcome Braxton! I hope you enjoy your stays here and I am sure you have a lot to bring to the table of knowledge.

Love,
Bentinho.

Dear Braxton, A warm welcome to you.

So…you are an acupuncturist? I am a big proponent of
O. Med, have had hundreds of treatments, and consider it a serious hobby;
I will look forward to your posts.

Any interest in acu-yoga? There’s an interesting link
for two wonderful modalities.
Perhaps you may wish to start a thread on
yoga and O.M. ? Have you ever checked your
pulses, done asanas, and then checked them
again? That would be interesting, yes?

YogiReviews.com…I’ll check that out.

Best with Blessings, Namaste,
Nancy

Nancy,

Nice to hear of your interesting in Oriental Medicine! There’s certainly a lot of shared concepts between the Chinese/Taoist roots of acupuncture and the philosophical roots of yoga. Although the terminology and details may differ, I find them a good fit.

I guess I have never pursued the concept of acu-yoga specifically - I suppose I just tend to interpret the benefits of yoga more in terms of OM (and therapeutically, use the the alignment concepts of yoga very consciously).

In China, of course, the relevant physical practices would be Qigong and Tai Chi, but those have their root in martial arts which affects both the physical form and mindset of the practice for me. I still love yoga the best!

I’ll probably be hanging out mostly in the yoga therapy forums. Hope I have time to contribute (and absorb!) regularly. I tend to be a slow, long-winded writer, and that limits how many posts I can make!
