I am aware of most of the ashrams in india offering Teacher Training Courses, however i am looking for a place or a teacher who can teach yoga therapy, with emphasis on creating programmes for people who may have structural/health issues. how to assess their needs and provide tailor made assistance for them. Many places around india offer yoga therapy courses but having spoken to several people who have attended the well known ones, there doesnt seem to be the indepth study of structure and movement that i feel one would require should they want to work with people who may have health/structural issues. i also find it hard to accept the time frame in which these courses claim to teach yoga therapy, usually 5-10 days!!
doing some research online i keep finding teachers who offer excatly what i am looking for, but they are usually western teachers working in america or uk, and i have not been abel to locate any within india. my own experience of learning yoga in india has been wonderful but left me feeling that there is not due care and attention given to safety within ones practice and a lack of knoweldge in relation to students with back issues etc etc. ive seen a numbre of people’s ailments worsen due to practising yoga which may not be suited to them, learned from tecahers who cannot differentiate between one persons limitations and anothers. I would be looking for any reputable yoga therapists within the south india area to study with on a long term basis.
