Yoga with Kids at Home – Any Advice? Here’s What Worked for Me

Hi everyone! As a parent who recently started yoga (thanks to some gentle nudging from friends), I was overwhelmed at first—between finding time and figuring out which poses actually work with kids around. After trial and error, here’s what helped me:

  • Short sessions (10-15 mins during naps or playtime)
  • Kid-friendly poses (like ‘tree pose’ challenges with my toddler)
  • Breathwork for stress (lifesaver during chaotic days!)

I stumbled on this beginner’s guide that finally made things click, but I’d love to hear any tips for staying consistent with little ones at home?

Parent Should teach only simple yoga pose, this will helps to keep their body healthy and also avoid various side effects. Teaching too much heavy yoga pose will causing bad health effects.

A few things that actually help (especially with kids in the mix):

  1. Lower the bar for consistency
Forget “perfect routines.” If you show up for even 5–10 minutes, that counts. Consistency > duration every single time.

  2. Stack it with your kid’s routine
Instead of finding time, attach it to something that already happens—like right after their nap or before bedtime. Makes it automatic.

  3. Let your kid be part of it (even if it’s messy)
You already noticed this—turn it into a game. It won’t be peaceful, but it will be consistent.

  4. Focus more on breath than poses
On chaotic days, just do simple breathing. That’s basically the core of most mindfulness classes anyway, and it works even when everything else falls apart.

  5. Don’t rely on motivation
You won’t “feel like it” most days. Build a tiny habit instead—same time, same spot. Make it stupid easy.

If you ever feel stuck again, trying structured mindfulness classes (even online ones) can help bring some direction—but honestly, what you’re doing right now is already the right approach.
