Nothing, but it is nothing to boast about my friend
I think if you can find happiness and be grateful for the simple things in life, that’s pretty dam good in my book. I love simplicity.

um no.
your guru is a complete and utter charlatan.
‘There is no truth, only your perception of truth.’
i.e. What is truth to you may not be to another. You have to listen to your heart and trust your instincts.
‘There is no truth, only your perception of truth.’
i.e. What is truth to you may not be to another. You have to listen to your heart and trust your instincts.
This is what I call feel good new agey philosophy.
But it is bunk.
If you have a perception of truth, it is only because there is a truth. We will have different perceptions based on our modes of access. As soon as we attain the same mode of access when our mind has been completely stilled, we all experience same truth.
“What is truth to you may not be to another.”
Then both you and the other are just chasing figments of one’s own imagination, projecting qualities of one’s own mind. The nature of the mind is such that, limited to it’s own workings, it is incapable of seeing anything else beyond it’s own subjectivity. And Truth is not something that belongs to any of our mental categories, the moment it has become included as part of one’s knowledge - one has imposed a limitation upon it.
“You have to listen to your heart and trust your instincts.”
Without clarity of vision, both the heart and one’s instincts are as capable of as many deceptions as the mind - in fact, they are not separate from mind.

This what I term NONSENSE!
If a person is brought up a Muslim, another a Hindu, another a Christian and they have studied their faiths in depth and believe whole heartedly it is true, then which is the true one? Is it true only for them or for everyone?
If a person believes the 99cent store is better place to shop than Wal Mart but another who shops at Wal Mart belives the opposite which is true? They both are true to themselves as ‘There is no truth, only your perception of truth.’
If I believe ‘Citizen Kane’ to be boring incompetently made rubbish and another person views it as the greatest film ever or a masterpiece, who holds the true viewpoint? Neither it is subjective.
Even in fields like Science, Psychiatry, etc there are vastly different and opposing views each claiming to be true with a mass of evidence and reasons purporting to support their viewpoint.
MindNinja,
“If a person is brought up a Muslim, another a Hindu, another a Christian and they have studied their faiths in depth and believe whole heartedly it is true, then which is the true one?”
Neither, they are all hallucinating. Truth is not something that is to be thought about or believed.
“Is it true only for them or for everyone?”
It is not even true for themselves. Although certainly, one may believe it to be the case, which is an entirely different matter.
“If a person believes the 99cent store is better place to shop than Wal Mart but another who shops at Wal Mart belives the opposite which is true?”
What they have been calling a store may have been just nothing more than a whisper of wind.
Nah, it is not nonsense, it is perfectly sound, but obviously you cannot comprehend it.

You are giving trivial everyday examples. I am talking of greater cosmological truths that are timeless.
Almost every mystic in every religious tradition has spoken similarly: There is a great divine power that is ineffable, but a feeling of infinite bliss, beyond time and space. Every mystical tradition have talked about energy centres in the body, subtle bodies and cosmic energy. Every tradition describes various realms beyond our own. In the Christian tradition they describe heaven, hell and purgatory. In Neo-platonism various planes going from subtle to gross are described. In the Hindu tradition 7*7 vibrational densities of planes are described. In Islam 7 heavens and 7 hells are described. In Australian aboriginal culture another realm called “dreamtime” is described. The Native Americans describe a spirit realm. In modern times, many parapsychologists have described various astral realms and mapped them and attempted to measure them. And scientists today describe several dimensions.
In other words these are transcultural truth confirmed by every tradition on the planet. It is therefore not subjective, because everyone is tapping the same truth.
Even in fields like Science, Psychiatry, etc there are vastly different and opposing views each claiming to be true with a mass of evidence and reasons purporting to support their viewpoint.
Hmm, theories might be different, but results are not different. If you put hydrogen and oxygen together you will get water - all the time. In psychology we can predict the most likely outcome based on known conditions on how people will behave. This has been proven in countless studies such as the Zimbardo study. In history we have obvious factual data when something took place, the battle of hastings took place in 1066.
None of the above is subjective, but objective.
I honestly have to question the intelligence of new agers who go around spreading this feel-good, lazy and anti-rational philosophy that there is no truth, it is all based on your beliefs. Nope, the moon is not based on my belief. The wind is not based on my belief.
The reason everybody experiences the same truth is when they come out of duality and enter non-duality, then they experience only one truth. When the senses are resolved into the mind, and the mind is resolved into its energy, and then energy resolved back into consciousness, leading to the complete stilling of the mind, everybody reports the same timeless truth.
You need to drop all thoughts, beliefs, in short all conceptualisations because these are the fulcrum of reality which cloud one’s viewing. They often fall into the domain of religion. They are the trappings and evaluations of the mind.If they are hallucinations you could always say that on a illusory level they are true (or seem true) to whoeveer is hallucinating or dreaming.
In short you can meditate to find out. In practice through introverting the senses you divest the mind of it’s energy and focus on the source of Consciousness itself which is beyond mind. The mind is just another layer colouring our perceptions. It evaluates rather than observes. You need to become the observer by dropping identifications with mind-based phenomena in your field of consciousness.Within the yogic sciences this can be done through any number of methods;the fastest way but the trickiest because all kinds of pyschological blocks are going to turn up is through penetrating directly the real source of awarness beyond the mind…i.e through meditation (or for most people) other preparatory work on the whole miind-body complex. In buddhist yoga or other meditation-based paths they get you to sit straight away and there is alot of work that can be done because you can dissolve alot of those blocks that are hindering you seeing( the light of) your true self behind the veils. Although it’s the quickest it’s also potentially alot more difficult because it’s those deeper layers that you’re uncovering, the unconscious realms and all of your prior programming, both biological and environmental, that has gone on before.
In practical terms find a method or methods, foolow them through and get to find out for yourself.Truth is observed ,not evaluated.
You need to get practical. Some just focus on the concept of the “I” thought. Who is it that is really enquiring? Is it the mind-body complex or something else.
Folk that have a religion often fall prey to identifying with the belieffs that they hold to be the truth. It’s like dirt on your mirror or wind-shield, you need to drop all that in order to see what’s really there , as you’re goin to end up with with distortions and mental constructions that block real awarness of pure consciousness. The best way i know of is through forms of deep meditation especially combined with other methods. Indeed many people will have to combine one practice with another to get rid of the muck on their wind-sheild or mirror.
So remember drop the evaluations and just observe. This may take some training not to mention some investment in time, energy and discipline.I believe Amir is right when he says that most of the work in yoga is getting rid of the blocks that stop one’s consciousness expanding. You get rid of the blcoks and they are lergely psychological and the rest should largely take care of itself once you have a little knowledge. Then the right understanding will come.I think alot of folk can’t delve deep enough iin practices because they are often holding on, they don’t surrender( i guess that is where religion or a devotional attitude could help or what they call bhakti which translates as spiritiual desire, the yearning for something more…in life, that there is something more). Some of these blocks could be fear and insecurity-based or fear of the unknown or the ego or simply conditioning, inner and outer-based even though they say that is just an illusion of duality-based thnking/perception. In yoga there is nothing other than the self;that is to say all manifests from the self.So you do the work and boundary or separation between inner and outer dissolves in due time and process.
I think my donwfall when i started yoga was to identify with the body too much. You need to dive deep, i.e surrender,do nothing, then follow your attention and awarreness using whatever methods you’re exploring (the doing part ) or none of the real work is going to get done.It might sound simple intheory but can be challening in practice. If you’ve ever tried sititing down and being still for a second you’ll see what i mean. Fortunately effective techniques and a whole host of methods have been devised to make the job easier and ,so to speak, kind of jump-start the process.
Find a meditation technique. Do it ten mintues at least for 3 days each day. You can always do it twice a day if you’re more commited and want quicker results although as Amir says you cannot force an awakeneing. But try it out and then see how you feel. Do you have greater awareness? Is there really some kind of fabled transcendental self behind these so called veils of relative illusion that hide or mask the true self?
The work involves investing every cell ,particle and energy of your being. If you’re serious commited and sincere you won’t be settling for half measures. So it takes a tremendous amount of effort or non-effort and dedication to follow through and commit… to this project.

yup.
but true.
Now what are you gonna do?
Paul Haggis was a Scientologist for 20 years. After all the longs years of seeing the writing on the walls he finally came to the point where he had to break free.
It can be hard I imagine - due in part to the amount of time one spends as part of an organization. The time - which is so precious - helps to forge chains of attachment and identification. So you are bound.
But the chains are only dreams.
How do I know she is a fraud?

by some of the responses you post. They are total fancy. The techniques - at least the small amount i've seen - are nonsense. I don't need to pour through all of them to determine garbage. The apples, as they say, don't fall far from the tree.
-
Also - simply because I know.

As I said I don’t need to inspect every piece to know rubbish.
I say shes a fraud.
my ‘friends’ agree that shes a fraud.
my ‘friends’ know things . . . they are actually pretty damn amazing that way.
In fact - they are NEVER wrong. I’m wrong sometimes. They however are NEVER wrong.
and - No they wont give me the lottery numbers - I already asked.
When you speak of proof like as in evidence this is very silly because no such proof, as in Hard evidence can ever be provided on these matters. And who is to decide in this world? The unenlightened?
Funny.
I simply know. I have no doubt.
If you had my means and my tools you would know shes a phony the same as I do.
Well I’ve been with Sahaja Yoga for 3-6 months, and even I will confirm Shri mata Nirmala devi is a fraud and it is a dangerous cult, don’t get involved. They inferfere in every part of your life, and try to control your thoughts. When I had a friend who wanted to leave, they sent their special men to interrogate him. She has embezzled so many funds, and built palances for herself around the world from money her gullible followers have given her. There is one country where she borrowed money, but then refused to give it back. The man who had borrowed the money was told that bad things about happen to him if he complained. She only dines and wears the finest. One time, she came to see her disciples, and her disciples gave her tea in ordinary cutlery. To which she exclaimed angrily, “Don’t you know how to treat a goddess” and they quickly ran and got the most expensive gold plated one - then she was pleased.
Their meditation is also rubbish. Originally they just ask you to sit and feel the cool breeze at the top of the head, but if you can’t feel it, they send a “worker” over to confirm it. After doing that a few times, they move onto making you meditating on the picture of her greatness. They tell everybody the same thing that comes there, “You are self-realized”
I attended a “going deeper meeting” because they had started to accept me as a higher member. I saw a brainwashing video and pictures of god damn feet in the room, annointed.
Stay away from this cult.
