Humility vs Arrogance: Which works better?
The arrogant are usually ignorant of the ego so I forgive and avoid them; the humble are usually masters of the ego so I?m skeptical of their motives.

Now you have experienced with your mind and both are modification of mind. Try to not use your mind at all and by choosing which is better dont choose any. Dont feel superior nor inferior. If you can help someone that deserve it do it. Now you probably knows what is right and wrong. Your philosophy have now served its purpose what if you try to walk the path alone without modification of mind now?
What’s “right or wrong”, “superior or inferior”, “good or bad” “known or unknown”? They’re judgments of the mind; many lakes reflect the moon but the agitated ones distort the source and the still ones seem to reflect the truth of the source.
Dharma is right and does not need judgement by mind. Anyone will sooner or later discover this them self without judgement.
I prefer humility. No one is perfect.
To prefer humility or arrogance is the same as thinking there is a right or wrong…simply a like or dislike of the human mind, everyone is perfect; nothing is happening that should not be happening except the delusional thoughts in your mind, think about it! Please.

Yes I agree when one brings themselves to a closer understanding of their true inner nature judgment dissipates, truth remains, empty your cup of all maya and the only thing left is Truth.
I don’t know but both should be spontaneous to be real arrogance or humility.

but it appears you do know
Well, either I pretend to be arrogant or humble, it’s kind of faking… isn’t it?
Okay I am going into arrogant mode for this post
There seems to be a lot of responses saying “Don’t use your mind” “Don’t judge right or wrong” I honestly wonder how these people go about their daily life without using their minds and making judgement
Come on, I want practical suggestions, not nonsense! If you were not using your mind you would be a vegetable. If you were not making judgements, you would be constantly making mistakes in life, falling in with the wrong crowd, doing the wrong thing and you would never be able to cross a road for starters.
We have to make decisions in our life, and decisions require a faculty of judgement and discrimination. Many of our decisions are made unconsciously for us, such as judging and coordinating motor activity, but we also have to make many conscious decisions day to day life. Should I eat this or not? Should I talk to him/her or not? Should I go left or right? Should I cancel that appointment or not? Should I stay in or not? In Yoga this aspect of the mind that deliberates is known as manas and the aspect of the mind that decides is known as buddhi
Jnana solves most of these conundrums. The acquistion of which might be a carrot for you to begin that which you’ve been putting off.
Don’t worry. You aren’t the first to say “God is not.” And it will be perhaps comical when you realize “they are” because I wonder . . . can the ego take it? Surely. It’s been done before.
Another good post btw.
Of course we need to use our mind to eat to walk to talk.
But the message is not to avoid your mind in your daily activities i dont think anyone meant so. Just dont use it to judge people only your “ego” judge others and feel superior to others and you dont need ego. No one meant you should completely stop using your mind that you have misunderstood Maybe it would have been better if we said dont use your ego at all (judgement of the mind) Understand that judging others or playing roles belongs to the ego.
Also if you meet someone that is not good you will get a hunch that something is not right about that person and you might be cautious, AND THIS HUNCH does not belong to your mind . Your hunch will tell you maybe the subconcssious that tells you, but this is not in your power , your mind which you are in power of will then analyze the situation and the more open you are the faster the answer comes to you.
Maybe you analyze someone you meet and then come to a conclusion but this does not have to be truth There are factors you weigh in and then come to a conclusion.
I think that many times you had a preconceived idea about something and then find out later you were wrong.
Dont let your ego use your mind.

It depends what you mean by judging. I have to judge people all the time: Are they intelligent or dumb? Are they spiritual or non spiritual? Are they interesting or not interesting? Are they worth talking to or not talking to?
In any case not entirely sure what this has to do with the topic thread on being humble vs being arrogant. Though sounds like you favour being humble.
Humility vs Arrogance.
Me, arrogant.
But,
hidden behind me (us) is emptiness, nothingness, what he (Buddha) has called
SUNYATA, hope you catch the empty space ?

Point taken and accepted.
If its necessary i point out the flaw of others. But if i can avoid it i just let them do what ever foolish things they do. Its no need of getting exited in your own mind because others are foolish, it will only drain your energy. Preserve your energy for your self instead. When you get angry for something its your ego mind that is getting upset the mind is impermanent what you get angry for today might change and tomorrow you are not angry for the same thing or other way around.
So what our ego thinks has no real value.
Why do you need to know if someone is spiritual or not? How is that going to help you on your own journey? Unless there is some teacher that you need evaluate.
What if someone is intelligent or not? Why do you need to even care, treat others in the same way you would like to be treated.
When you say you need to know if they are worth to talk to or not you are not being unconditional you want something in return, thats why you need to know if you should talk to them or not. Stop it-its not good for your spirituality.
Being humble or not or arrogant or not should not be in your concern at all you should just be. Dont let your mind overpower you. If you dont know how to be dont worry listen to your heart, no one are successful to start with it takes time for spiritual transformation but eventually it will happen.
Be aware and you will start to take control . Dont let your ego control you. And if it does and you are aware of what happened good that means next time you are surely more prepared when it happens.
Being humble or arrogant and decide how to behave is a play of the ego. You should not make up your mind how to be, you should just be.
Maybe this sound stupid in your ears today but there is a day tomorrow and the day after that too.
But if he ego must choose, arrogance would not be a good choice as it has no place in spirituality. As pride is one of the hinders towards self realization.
In Hindu theology, Arishadvarga are the six passions [1] of mind or desire: kama (lust), krodha (anger), lobh (greed), moha (attachment), mada or ahankar (pride) and matsarya (jealousy); the negative characteristics of which prevent man from attaining moksha or salvation.
So make your choices with your free will. But if we make wrong choice we will suffer and bear pain.
Before your meditation you should pray that all creatures in all spheres has the right to be happy. Everyone strives for this happiness but we dont know how to get it so we make wrong choices that gives us impermanent happiness.

It will help me decide who to keep company with - satsang.
What if someone is intelligent or not? Why do you need to even care, treat others in the same way you would like to be treated.
It will help me decide if they are capable of understanding more advanced concepts or not and save me the time discussing such concepts with them.
When you say you need to know if they are worth to talk to or not you are not being unconditional you want something in return, thats why you need to know if you should talk to them or not. Stop it-its not good for your spirituality.
There are 7 billion people on this planet, I cannot talk to all of them. I need to choose who I talk to and who I don’t.
Being humble or not or arrogant or not should not be in your concern at all you should just be.
Really vague answer, meaningless in fact. Makes no sense.
What does it mean to “just be” ?
