You are like most on the forum in that you can never hope to understand the oppression we go through. You are like most on the forum in that you always accuse us of spreading intolerance and violence and hatred because you do not understand what we, as Hindus, have go through on a daily basis. .
Please state where I accused you. In fact, post it. You will not find it, because I never said it or implied it.
Of course they don’t want to deal with it. Remember that quote from MLK I keep quoting? .
I remembered your quote.
I group them together because all Westerners are indeed bound by the fabric of Christianized and Westernized biases. When was the last time I heard a Westerner I thought was intelligent say something like “blacks are stupid” or “you worship mutant gods?” (he was a Christian). Oh yeah, not even a day ago. You won’t understand this since you are a Westerner. Even I, when I was a “tolerate all religions” do-gooder, used to have these biases. .
First of all I can relate. I was not raised Brethern rather shocker Mormon.
Mormons are considered by most Christians as the following :
polygamist, non Christian, heaten, cultish… the list goes on.
But if you say so! I will not presume that I know anything of YOUR SUFFERING.
So, let me tell you what I (and many others) do understand.
That half the world’s population lives on less than a dollar a day. That Christianty at its worst, places women and children at the bottom of the rung socially, economically and politically. That men use religion to place women in roles that are deameaning and discriminatory. That in Africa, most girls from poor families can’t attend school after they reach puberty due to not having access to proper contraceptives (to avoid becoming pregnant if raped) and are not educated about the dangers of STD’s due to the incorrect stigmas placed on protections such as female condoms by Islamic fundalmentalist. That in South America married women send their young children to beg on the streets to earn enough money to feed them since they are not given options or the education to make choices about the sizes of their families and therfore live in poverty with no hope of escape. That in India you are persecuted by faiths that claim to share many of the same ideals that I do. (By the way I don’t support either, in good faith or finanically, missionary efforts. Most Brethern don’t. We find the practice rude and disrespectful to impose our beliefs on others since for many generations the same was done to us by other Christian denominations.)
I know half of the world hates us and that most Americans/Westerners are biased against anything that is different.
Well did I miss anything?:???:
My heart weeps for you and half the world. I consider myself blessed to live in a place where I know my children will not have to experience the horrors that much of the world sees. That does not mean that I have blinders on either. We know (many Americans and westerners and even most ) that we must make radically different choices than many of our fellow citizens around us. We do try our best to set the example of how to have respect for others views and ideas. You undermind our efforts when you lump us together by stating that all Westerners are the same and that we could never understand because we are not Hindu/Indian.
You give them justification for their rationals and biases because they see your generalized assumptions and statements as an affirmation of their rationals and biases.
Rather than get angry, educate us on the inhuman things that occur. Post the links. Show the pictures. Report the injustice. Give physical examples of things that Western media and academa gets wrong and don’t just state it as fact. Show us the evidence and as much of it as you can get. Remember the world is large, and if you want attention it is better for the evidence to speak for its self rather than resort to an angry statement.
We practice that the whole of humanity is a community. Whether they are Hindu, Buddist, Muslim, Christian, Athest and so on…
That everyone “should be judged on the content of their character and not on the color of their skin” (gender, relgious views, nationality, disabilities)
Good luck on your endevor. I have a yoga mat that is calling my name and some frustrations to think about.
