Is Yoga Hinduism?

Ah, the life of a thread! It has a life of it’s own. It evolves into something no one expected! A comedy of sorts. There to brighten and “enlighten” everyone’s day! At least this thread went out on a happy note! And there was much rejoicing!

That darn cow still has my yoga mat.

just leave it to the experts Yulaw…you can hire us if you want…it will cost…and we don’t do self destruct…

I think if we wait till it gets to a new page and put something provocatively complicated like
Yoga is not Hinduism…it should be enough to get it going again

So whats the weather like

Well, it’s not raining cows, ferrets or fish anymore! It’s a cold day today. Perhaps we shall get one of those Ice tornadoes! That would be something!

ooops, gotta run, I see that darn cow with my mat!

That ice tornado was something, didnt know you could get them…I bet that causes some damage if it hits you …Got to feed my squirrel some yorkshire pudding

its about time you taught that cow a lesson!!

Ive been doing my lasagne’s today and my Prawnyummies, very relaxing

Well it’s just crazy here at my house! Like a zoo! Between the cow, the locust, dolphin, snakes, cobra, that flying eagle! Ahh! Not to mention all i hear is the buzzing bee breathing! Maybe that Buszzing bee is after your Prawnyummies! Better hide them!

I just can’t sit and relax enough to try lasagnasanas! What’s a girl to do?

I’ll send a list… cash or check

@Yulaw,

If you take care of that cow and get my mat back, I’ll owe you!

Would you like some lasagnasana?

Pawel. You got it brother .They are so lost in arguments how funny .Thats just the mark of the fact that they havent done enough internal work.Lost in words and arguments .That does not take them beyond mind.

teitan…we were lost in humour:D

Well is great to have fun laugh is very important especially to the world.Have you seen Budas sculptures show him with a laugh is because laughing is magickal.

What yoga is to hinduism, is mysticism to the western culture. Yoga comes from Yuj: unite (with God). The Unio Mystica (communion) is also the experience of uniting with God. To Patanjali Yoga is merely the stopping of the modifications in the mind. If you achieve that, you can call it as you wish; samadhi or unio mystica, but that state is the same. The wise man of ancient Greece and Rome describe states of enlightenment that are no different from the descriptions from Ancient India. The concepts of gnosticism are the same thing in another language. Don’t forget that the word jnana in Greek is gnosis. The Aryans of India and the Hellens from greek once were one tribe in central asia. So why should yoga be the exclusive merit of Hinduism? It is the ancient knowledge heritage of all Indo-europeans ie.e Indians and Europeans…

This is profoundly true and simple teitan and one reason why Buddhism should be practiced …

It may be so that the very name of this thread is misleading: “Is yoga Hinduism ?”

Well, yoga is NOT a religion. That has been amply documented by the post

Hinduism IS a religion. It is rather a peculiar form of religion, but a religion nonetheless:

Then, if Hinduism is a religion and yoga is not a religion, how can be yoga Hinduism ? How can apples be oranges ?

Religion comes from Re-ligere: Re-connect (with God for that matter). Is Yoga, Yuj also not connection with God?

Yes, yoga means connection with God. But it means it BEYOND DOGMAS, i. e.
beyond religion, like a personal contact with God.

You can meditate and prey on your chosen deity (Jesus Christ, Khrishna…)as a step towards God. The chosen deity is RELIGION. But your chosen deity is not essential in yoga.

Well like I said before kareng budha learned from brahamans and then evolved it in to hes own system.Seems like he didnt care that much for some of their technicisms.Or dogmas.

One of those swamis said it’s not a religion because there is no diety, then he or another swami talked about yoga and God.

A list of out of context quotes isn’t conclusive proof.
