Kriya Yoga in "Autobiography of a Yogi"

Yogananda makes several refernces to Kriya Yoga in his book. Is there an explinaiton of Kriya Yoga as he practiced it?

I made a comment on this once. But will wait to really comment. How he explains.it.the understanding. Is easy. Ironic. But the technique it.is applied under isn’t given in the book. Hyperventilation under its proper definition is.decarbonization of.the.body. it Aldo disjoins inspiration and expiration on a.cellular level. Which in turn effects gross.respiration. just remember speed didn’t matter in breathing. Only continuity void of pause.for “pause” comes of its own accord when we normally breath. And so breathlessness also comes of “its own accord”

I have never come across anything in which Yogananda stated or wrote this is how I practice kriya and techniques are not given in the book which has been stated numerous times. So, basically who knows what he personally practiced unless one witnessed and practiced with him. And he were to explain in detail.

I think more on the subject can be found by googling " Ennio Nimis". This person was in search of the original kriya and was involved with learning some techniques from Yogananda’s organization (SRF) however, the techniques stated I believe are the modified/simpler techniques given as it was/is believed westerners are unable to perform some of the techniques/steps. (ie, Kechari)

I think Yogananda practiced differently from what he gave to many of his followers simply because he could accomplish the techniques like kechari while others could not.

Avatar has given a good explanation of the use of the pranayam. Decarbonization.

I’m perplexed. Yogananda put so much importance on bringing Yoga to the Western world, yet there’s little to no trace of Kriya Yoga?

Power. It boils down to power. Giving a man a gun. It can be used for benifit. Or harm.
Kriya creates power.
Breathing is controlled by carbondioxide levels. Not o2 level. Thus u can decarbonize while having sufficisnt oxygen. Decarbonization causes the o2 to bond tighter to the hemoglobin.thus blood becomes oxygenated and nervous system starts to fire. Metabolic waste is expunged from the body, and less metabolic waste is created due to the withholding of o2. Metabolic waste is oxidization. Both metals and organics are victims of the fire of oxidization. Rust and rotting are same thing.
The Taoists knew this as well. In Taoist words. The spirit must be crystallized. The primal spirit “being the breath and its energy brought through decarbonization” must subjugate the conscious spirit. The consciouses spirit being the heart/solar plexus. As the condition of the mind depends upon the condition of the heart. It is not the mind that’s angry but the heart. It is not the mind that’s happy but the heart. Subjugate the heart. For the tree depends on the soil it grows from.
knowing that true Tai Chi. The excersice of gaining Internal power. Is but the excercise and control of blood circulation. And that the jade tiger or energy of breathing is through decarbonization.

Subjicating the heart and crystallizing the spirit. In decarbonization breathing is regulated and so circulation is. Ironically the place of the “heart” Is exaclty where the blood pockets of the lungs are. Decarbonization is a function of lungs and of breathing. Thus they say make breathing silent so their is no resistance in solar plexus. They say make breathing rhythmical and consistant for this is the method of decarbonization. Thus when breathing and heart come in harmony. All is subjugated. Decarbonization becomes natural. As well the spiritual fire. Comes from circulation. This is current revaluation. Will let u know if it works. And yes I do know I used Taoist labels. But remember this and know. The process IS even withought label. And it naturally happened to me long ago as a child. And I did it without knowing at the age of 17. I aim to make a path of understanding now. Made of stone. So know. The process is without label and natural. We label because.that’s how we convey meaning. Sound, objective, meaning. Mantra yantra tantra.
Say chip. Its a verbal sound. Associated with an object. Because of this when I say chip u understand. Know this is a process that is associated with many sounds.and meaning. But exists without them. Lmao

Ok. I will give my pranayama practice more attention.

Wait! Lmao
Decarbonizatio. Itself is easy. Breath in. Breath out.
Carbon builds up. Tells ur body to breath. In doing so carbon drops. Then your breathing pauses a moment. Carbon builds up. Then u breath again.
All u must do. Is breath without pause. You will feel tingling if you do it correctly. A tingling, similar to pins and needles, but different for their is not painfullness.
I apologize for my poor explanation I am doing this over a touch screen phone  makes things harder.

If their is no pause in your breathing. You do not give carbondioxide a.chance.to build up
Thus u decatbonize faster than carbondioxides build up. You are throwing.the water out of the ship faster than its.building up.

Correct posture. Breathing. Where the minds at. It is a super.safisticated complex machine you are driving. Its.complexity lays in its numerouse variables. Thing a giant.robot u control with many many buttens.and.dials. so many combinations.and.variables. key first is knowing what your purpose.is. then direct the machine.

If you have a SRF (Self Realization Fellowship) temple near you, they probably hold classes on PY’s Kriya Yoga.

I’m sure. But if they taught correctly we would all be spiritual ninjas.thus logical deduction says they aren’t teaching correctly or they don’t give u the full cigar.

Right On! One can try the SRF technique simply by going to kriyayogaboard.yuku.com and click on SRF the 5th post from the top will give you the technique for their kriya. Personally, their “AW” and “EE” mouth and nose breathing did nothing for me. This pranayam was a waste of time for me.

I practiced what I considered to be appropriate breathwork for a period of 3 hours towards the end of work and on my journey home for the evening. I had to stop the practice while I was driving because the state of mind I Was in was not safe for driving. I can see where this path leads.

Appropriate breathwork? What were the effects?

What was the appropriate breathwork you did for 3 hours? Yes, please post the effects. What state of mind were you in?

Avatar,

If the pranayam is being done correctly than one feels tingling. Is it also a common experience to have the whole body vibrate as well? This is the result of nerve endings firing or something to that effect-----It is quite the experience!

When Yogananda was about to depart for America Sri Yukteswarji told him to teach the Kriya Yoga of Patanjali. Kriya yoga is the complete spiritual path which consists of tapas (discipline), swadyaya (Self-study), and Ishwara-pranidana (oneness with God). The technique to assist one in achieving thoughtless awareness in meditation (kriya pranayama) is only one small component in the process. Over concern regarding the form of practice can lead to a more “materialistic” approach to awakening. It is the “after effects tranquility” in meditation practice that is transformative, according to Lahiri Mahasaya.

That’s heavy.
Something to think about.

RPL,
Where does this information exist that Yukteshwar told Yogananda go teach the "Kriya"
yoga of Patanjali. Are you basing this on a rumor or is there proof of this? I would like to know because I have never heard this story until now. Please share the source.

Regards.
