Perhaps the most important phrase in modern times is the phrase “God is dead” by the harbinger of our times Fredreich Neitzche. He despised the stupifying, life-denying and herd like mentality that Christianity breeded in people and identified it as one the greatest evils in the history of man. Instead, he turned towards the East towards religions like Hinduism and Zoroastrianism which gave more importance to the individual. He envisaged a new religion of the modern age where the humans themselves would become gods by the sheer power of will and dominate over the meek. He saw this as a religion of the uber-mench(the super men)
To a large extent this is what modern times is about. It is about superhumans who through their perserverence and hard work rise to the top of society and dominate the rest. They are virtually like gods and we worship them and make them our role models whether that be superich capitalists, pop stars or Hollywood celebrities. They are the gods of our new age. We idolize and worship them, emulate them and work for them. And why shouldn’t they be where they are? Whatever they are doing is working and they are reaching great heights and leaving behind those who do not have the will to power to do the same.
The fact that god was dead was long recognised by the Hindus and we had replaced god with man, woman, animal, nature, concepts. We recognised that god was our invention and we could do anything we like with it. So we said, the teacher is god; the parents are gods; nature is god because they contributed to our highest goods. We came to use the word god to describe anything which was excellent or a supreme good. The sun was god because without the sun there would be no light and no life; water was god because water is what vitalizes us, without water we would die.
This is why Hindus have always worshipped excellence. Even today Hindus will even worship movie stars, rich capitalists and generally anybody who is successful. We worship excellence because we ourselves want to be excellent. The greatest of the greatest. And who is more excellent than masters, siddas, buddhas, yogis? These are humans who have mastered their minds and bodies, are full of joy, wisdom and compassion and are capable of great wonders which to less evolved humans look like miracles. They are the gods of the religion of Sanatana dharma - the Eternal way. They are the real role models of humanity. The sole aim of the Eternal way is become just as great as they are.
Humanity is now ready for the Eternal way and the death of god is now becoming official. It is time for humanity to grow up and realise that this concept of god was nothing more than a human potential which we all had, and some humans even realised it and founded many great religions.
Yoga is the new religious practice of humanity and this is becoming very clear by the fact that 20 million Americans in the most powerful country in the world, in a Christian majority country to boot, are embracing Yoga - the religious practice of the Eternal way. That is designed with the sole aim to realise our religious goals of becoming great.
There is no need for any “god” anymore. This concept is now as superflous as Santa Claus was to children. Nor is there any need for organized religion and organized codes of conduct. Man is his own god now and will chart his own future.
